re: #14 Cosmic X

I heard that routine on his record “Class Clown” when it first came out. My older brother bought it. I thought that it was funny at the time. My opinion has “evolved” in the meantime”.

I saw that routine performed live in Milwaukee in 1972. Carlin was arrested immediately following that performance. Here’s a brief paraphrasing of his arraignment:

Arresting officer: There were women and children in the audience, Your Honor.

Judge: And what was their response when he said those words?

Arresting officer: They gave him a standing ovation, Your Honor.

Judge: Charges dismissed! You are free to go, Mr. Carlin.

This reflects life in America, including the internet today, although it hadn’t been invented at the time of that performance.

One can avoid sites that give standing ovations to such words. It is unlikely one can change the site.
