I hope I donât offend any vets here but I fear weâre turning respect for veterans into a cult and making true respect a mockery.
On May 15, 1924, President Calvin Coolidge vetoed a bill granting bonuses to veterans of World War I, saying: âpatriotism⌠bought and paid for is not patriotism.â
