I saw analysis a few months ago on why is it that these Heritage Foundation judges are always full blown nuts and usually have marginal legal academic resumes.

There is a very thin talent pool for Heritage et al to draw from who actually believe this crazy shit that she is saying, but if you are a true believer, you will be set up and nurtured beyond your wildest dreams with clerkships and safe judge seats, even with a mediocre academic transcript.

I am not so impressed by excellent academic transcripts — after all Scalia was a brilliant student. Personally, I consider recommendation by the Federalist Society a disqualifying mark against a nominee’s character. And character plays a more important role in judgement than academic skill.
