I have a very bad feeling about this. The crazies are sure to take credit for any and all Republican gains, even if these are disastrously slight for a midterm with a tanked economy. Their constituency will buy it, too, just as they bought the notion that McCain lost because he was not crazy enough. With a slate of rational candidates, of course, the Republicans could sweep the Dems away by historic margins, but the nuts will have their media machine to conceal and deny this.

With a slate of rational republican candidates nobody would vote for them.

Its a painful fact, but yesteryear’s rational Republican is today’s blue dog democrat.
