re: #285 The Ghost of a Flea

Trayvon Martin demonstrated without question that it’s not about “all of us.”

An armed, grown man followed a child in his car, then on foot. When that pursuit turned into a fight, the child is shot and it’s “self defense.”

The implication of a grown man following a child around a neighborhood—“unofficial neighborhood watch”—with no cause somehow being a neutral act, not fucking creepy and rape-y and stalkerish, is where you can see that it’s not about honor or community or defense.

Worse, the NRA personally profited off the entire thing by helping turn Trayvon Martin into the posterchild of ‘the enemy’ the NRA positions themselves against: the mythical, hyper-violent super-criminal thug attacking ‘good citizens’ out of nowhere because they’re ‘animals’. They literally and successfully turned his name into a synonym for ‘thug’ so they could sell more fucking guns and push more laws in Florida and across the nation to ensure guns were treated as nigh-mandatory.
