I had a more pro-active family as a tail-end Baby Boomer.
Seat belts mandatory. Bike helmets pretty much werenโt available though. My uncle was the only person in the family who owned a pick-up truck and no one was allowed to ride in the back even a short distance. Doctors not wearing gloves seemed to be the standard of care at the time, not so much that doctors were ignoring safety precautions.
AIDS transmission was the driving thing behind the medical services wearing gloves from what I recall.
