Yeah, Pacific Rim is classic kaiju movies with a modern spin. Best reason to watch is Idris Elba. Neat sfx, but the story was a wee bit thin.

Looks like this year’s Godzilla is going to be the modern take on kaiju that will have lasting ability.

Battleship on the other hand was virtually unwatchable.

Elba is great for heroic characters, IMO. Of course, my opinion on that point was shaped by the fact that the role in which I first saw his true abilities was one in which he was a kind of tragic hero.
