There’s a frightening number of people who want a straight-talking, no-holds-barred tough guy to be leader. They don’t care if he proposes simplistic answers that have no chance of success. He appeals to their baser natures.

Hence Palin’s and the rest of the teaparty leaders’ popularity. They all say a lot of nothing: word salad rants, factless and debunked talking points, and hate filled-rhetoric. That’s all it takes to be popular among the right-wing today.
