re: #280 Jebediah, RBG

I’ve often wondered what it would take for a third party/independent to do well in the general election. I’m thinking one of the two major party nominees would have to have a complete and utter break down (I’m talking Stockdale at the ‘92 VP debate), and the third party/independent would have to be acceptable to the party that saw the meltdown.

So, under those circumstances, let’s say Trump wins the nomination and during his acceptance speech at the convention quotes Hitler or uses the 14 words. Is there a republican who could run as an independent that’s not currently in the race? Would his role be anything more than spoiler? And nightmare scenario: what do Republican members of the House do nobody gets to 270 electoral votes? (Given that the vote would be by state, all those square states in the middle with 1 or 2 representatives become very important).
