We can hope this is a big part of turning that around. There are already rumblings of change. I’ve seen more stories about the shortcomings of private prisons in the news and Univ. of CA recently divested their private prison holdings after students demonstrated over the issue.
It will all take time, but I am hopeful.

Alabama has been contracting with Texas to ship our women prisoners there (probably for-profit contractors as well). It removes them from any reasonable chance of family visits.
