Nunes getting canned is a limited victory.

Getting to the bottom of what Trump did vis a vis Russia is the goal. Figuring out who among his cabal of cronies was involved is the goal.

If Nunes goes down (and gets charged for violating any number of crimes, including obstruction of justice or improper release of classified info), so much the better.

Manafort, Stone, and all the rest are involved - and they know it. Even the GOP knows it. That’s why Nunes acted as he did. He tried to muddy the waters to give Trump a talking point.

It worked to the point that Trump sent out a campaign presser touting it.

Of course, they lied about what Nunes actually said, but it doesn’t matter to Trump supporters. They’ve bought everything else Trump’s said to date, so this is just one more lie they’ve bought.
