Another data point which shows conservatism is a religion, and the person has confused what they believe with who they are. When its main tenets are shown to be unsupported or false, like all other religions, they shut out opposing data, seek out like-minded individuals, or if they cannot operate within the beliefs of their religion (wear a mask), they get violent. Anyone seen as violating the tenets of their religion must be either converted or opposed violently, as someone wearing a mask and not dying of CO2 poisoning or whatever else they believe is a direct contradiction to their religion.

I hate to burst your bubble, but all of those things are fully capable of happening in a physics department as well.
