Other than the finch food, there isn’t anything sweet around (‘ceptin’ me).

Maybe commercial finch food is coated with honey or something???

Chances are the nest in right by the tree. Some are above ground, maybe in the tree, but mostly they build underground and come out of a hole. This is the time of year the second and largest group hatch and take flight.

I’d be wary of them. If you keep seeing a lot of them, you might want to call someone to get rid of the nest.
