I was raised on 78’s of Benny Goodman (who also did 1:00 Jump), Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Bix Beiderbecke. Dad had a 33 rpm of Benny Goodman at Carnegie Hall, which included a fierce “Sing, Sing, Sing” and incredible drum solo by Gene Krupa. My 46 year old brother, who is a drummer, was influenced by that record. I took clarinet lessons after seeing the Benny Goodman Story when I was in third grade.

“Sing Sing Sing” at Carnegie Hall was great but it was Jess Stacy’s piano solo that really made that set. He wasn’t expecting the nod but brought the song to another level.

Gotta go pull that up on the computer, such a great take.
