re: #285 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

My in-state tuition was around $300 per semester. I do not know how much of the actual cost of my education was subsidized, but I suspect that share has decreased over the past 40 years

In the late 90’s, my tuition at Long Beach State went from about $1200/semester to about $850/semester (sadly books were still too damn expensive). It was the dotcom boom and the state was flush with cash. Rather than use the extra money to strengthen and expand the system (knowing full well it was already straining then), they kept cutting tuition rates. I mean, I appreciated it at the time because it meant I was student loan debt free when I graduated, but it wasn’t the most foresight by the state.
