Immigration story. Mom from another country. Came to US in 1959 on some sort of visa, married Dad. Worked all her life. Got those SS statements in the mail. Goes to collect Social Security…please show us your birth certificate. She has a SS #, had it since she started working in 1960, but find out she’s an undocumented immigrant. She never did the necessary paperwork. This is in So Cal. I kind of freak out. Do everything (pay $$$$) to get her “legal”. Luckily this is 3 years ago, before the big anti-immigration hullabaloo. She qualified by being here continuously since 1972. Get’s her SS now, green card carrying senior.

One (of the many) things I got out of this event, is there are people have paid into SS and cannot collect it.
