There you go with the catastrophizing. Are we building a massive army to take over the continent like Nazi Germany? Are we instituting systemic and governmental racism and bigotry like Nazi Germany? Are we having rallies where hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens show up and give praise to our dear leader who will save us all? Get a grip, dude.

None of that was happening in Germany in 1932. That’s not to say we’re becoming Nazi Germany, but it helps to remember that Germany went sideways pretty fucking quickly once Hitler came to power. Consider how quickly this country went from 9/11 to putting troops in Afghanistan. In less than 2 years after 9/11, we were not only involved in two wars, but we had a slew of laws that trampled all over civil liberties for Americans as well as foreign citizens.
