Championing social reform is a long slog. We benefit from brave people of the past who worked all their lives to make changes.

I guess we should not expect any positive change to come about easily.

Before I’ve referenced the concept of the “two Americas” though I am not sure I believe in such a thing, at least as commonly kicked around.

I do believe that there may be natural limits to how uniformly a society can self-modify itself as it grows in size. As our population in the US continues to grow that means many societal sub-divisions created through self-identification will grow too.

It is probably wrong to believe humans can live in a totally flat society; we arrange ourselves into hierarchies. This then in a nation like ours gets reflected in the formal political divisions.

One strategy is the light-a-single-candle approach, where the idea is that a single person changing will affect the people around them, and so on. It may be the only enduring long term strategy for positive change.

There are many strategies for negative changes - anarchists, for example. Those approaches are easy compared to actually building a better life.
