re: #199 Targetpractice

As for me, my situation is…fluid. Working at a hotel front desk means if tourism falls off a cliff, there’s no guarantee you’ll have a job over the long-term. We were already running a skeleton crew due to the winter months, so there’s not a lot of people that can be cut from the staff before we’re unable to operate. And as of 2 days ago, we were on course to be down to 1/3 capacity by Friday. I honestly have no clue if I’m going to have a job past Friday, or how long I’ll have one before corporate shuts us down.

At my hotel, we’re maintaining a skeletal system. The upstairs is closed, heat off. The pool, hot tub and exercise rooms are all shut down for the duration. No hot breakfast, just grab and go bags with fruit, string cheese, yogurt, granola bars and bottled water.

One desk clerk had been fired recently and one took a voluntary lay off. So the rest of us are doing all right. My over night shifts are ending an hour early for cost reasons but that’s doable - I’m only losing 2 hours a week that way and 80 vs 76 isn’t that big a deal. The management company has said there will be someone at the front desk 24 hours.

Our reservations have fallen off the cliff but I had a reasonable number of walk ins every night of late and I think that’s going to be the core of our biz here in town. Combined with the well known brand name (Holiday Inn Express) it will, I think, be enough for us. Other local hotels may not be so lucky.
