Reading ‘Trouble Boys’ may not make him like the Replacements. I read it and my impression is that the books makes them look like really mean drunks. It’s kind of a lesson in how to fuck up a career.

To elaborate: I never did heroin because of Keith Richards, but I was among many impressionable idiots who thought it was ok to get wasted when performing. Thankfully our drummer thought otherwise and wasn’t afraid to throw his sticks. Still, it took me awhile to realize the bullshit of that image that Keith and other rock performers presented when I was 13, 14—I mean that I didn’t realize it until I was in my late teens. I didn’t go to college so much to get smarter; I went to leave the dream of playing in a band and to save myself.
