Didn’t they somehow think they could get around the succession by putting someone in as interim director then fire Mueller. Say, a Trump stooge like a Pruitt.

I think that is what the most brilliant Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Attorney at Lawless was hinting when she said they have been advised there are legal paths to fire Mueller.

Of course it could be 89%+11% bullshit…but that is really what SHS practices best.

Yeah, they floated that a while back. The issue (as I understanding it) is different rules apply if someone is fired or if they resign. If it’s a resignation, Trump can move anyone in the executive that has been confirmed by the Senate to fill the position on an interim/acting basis for like 6 months. But if they are fired, the next person in line of succession becomes the acting office holder.

The question is, if Trump fires Sessions and names Pruitt as Acting AG, is there anyone with standing (besides possibly Rosenstein) who could challenge that appointment in court? Or would it be considered a political thicket question that the courts would refuse to touch?
