Jesus, Bill - it’s the same goddam people!!! They’re 35 years older now, and they’re frustrated that the world didn’t stay the way they wanted it.

But, you know, it was ALWAYS about anger and fear. It’s just that Reagan portrayed fucking the poors and the coloreds as ‘Self Reliance’. “Welfare queens driving Cadillacs”, “Strapping young bucks on street corners buying T-bone steaks* with Food Stamps” - any of that ring a bell?

*Why T-bone steaks? I think there’s something semantically loaded about that. The phrase doesn’t work the same way if you substitute Porterhouse, or Strip, or Ribeye. Funny, but I think it’s true.
