Seems to me in the past, there was more caring about helping people when they were down but as said, that was before the idea that LBJ especially championed that all Americans regardless of skin color should be helped if they’re in need. It really seems to me that the new right (post WWII) owes its very existence and success to white resentment. And I guess that makes it hard for me to respect the conservative ideology of the past 50 something years. It’s one thing ot me if you disagree with these programs in principle, I vehemently disagree but when I see people, people who are big government recipient benefits themselves bitching about “moochers” and “welfare queens”, I want to smack people.
