Amazon doesn’t have control of the cost of the Kindle version of all of its books. My son, who published his own book of poetry, was able to set whatever price he wanted. I think some of the hardcover book sellers are doing that on purpose to discourage people from buying Kindle versions.

The publishers set the price. When Kindle first came out, the books were all sold at far less than a hardcover, but the publishers were like NOPE. Many of the books listed for Kindle say “Price set by publisher”
