re: #291 Joe Bacon 🌹
When I started at Pitt, Undergraduate tuition was $450 a trimester and the board charge was also $450. Total was $1,800 for the year since people mainly went two trimesters per year. Add average $200 for books.
Now…Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster!
For the year…
In-State tuition is $19,080 and board is $10,950, book average is $773 and “other expenses” $2,447.
No way I would be able to go to college if I was 17 and just graduated high school…
I lucked out, when I was in college (96-00), we had the dotcom bubble and California was cutting tuition every semester. I think my freshman year it was about $1,500 a semester, by my senior year it was less than $900 a semester. Delivering pizzas in Orange County was enough to cover tuition and books.
At the UC schools now, apparently tuition is over $16k a year. Private schools like Chapman or USC are in the $50-70k per year range. And neither of those include books or housing.
At about $7000 a year, I could probably figure out a way to make it work. There’d be financial aid and a job like I had back then. But, I think I could pull it off.
