I wanted to vote for Harris in the primary but she withdrew before I had a chance. The yet-again-disaster of the DNC collapsed the field down to Biden and Bernie, neither of whom I wanted.

But frankly putting the mayor of Atlanta on a list really is tokenism. It really is only an attempt to correct the image (an image based in part in reality) that Biden is yet another old white guy and that only old white guys are viable to run for President.

We are not doing well here in the US. It’s not just the fact that Trump is President. That alone tells us that American polity has run aground. But we also need to look at the failure of the nomination processes, and the failure to have a real democracy (e.g., the electoral college and the Senate need Constitutional reforms.)

The blathering of empty patriotism that flows from the religious right and money-right is just a fig leaf to cover up what everyone knows - the US needs fundamental reforms.
