I think there’s no doubt that ACORN’s oversight procedures left a LOT to be desired, and denying this or minimizing it is just silly.
Some chapters operated ethically; others did not, a reflection on local operations more so than the national ACORN.
Now, has ACORN been overrated in terms of their influence? Yes, I think that’s been greatly overrated.
Here’s a funny story: One of the now flounced and banned ones had a kid in college, who got a temporary and part-time job with, wait for it - ACORN! The person just about flipped out.
