Funny. All the versions of the NT I have read mentioned nothing about “brutal savages”.

Not that the NT is accurate - it’s anything but good history as we understand historiography today.

The Roman elite were the high society of the day.
Roman officers were educated.
Sanhedrin were the upper crust of local society.
The Pharisees were the educated elite of local society.

The only “savages” were the rebels… er… those who became the “Christians” of the first century.
