My husband teaches in a high school. When kids are insubordinate, he will not escalate the situation. After class, he will have a private talk with the kid and calmly explain that he doesn’t and didn’t disrespect the kid and he expects the same treatment in return. That usually gets him an “I’m sorry, Mr.” and better behavior from the kid at least in his classroom.
