This is actually the correct ruling, because he will go on trial for what he did on January 6, not for being Nazi scum. I mean, if you were on a jury trying a Nazi, it would be hard not to convict him just as a matter of principle.
Thus taking away an avenue of appeal for the defense: “Your Honor, I move for a mistrial because evidence that my client is a Nazi unfairly prejudiced the jury against him, instead of convicting him on the merits of the prosecution’s case.”
