Christie was knowledgeable, competent, not boring, and a total jerk. But he would have handled Covid before it became a pandemic and there may have been few deaths worldwide under his administration.

Christie was basically trying for the position in the pack that Trump ultimately took of “the bully who gets shit done.” That he was a “dealmaker” with a track record of getting Dems to agree to follow him on various laws and initiatives. And that the folks of his state were (at worst) of the “he might be a bastard, but he’s our bastard” mentality.
