I’m going to guess that it is because then they can’t charge you (or your insurance) for it.

I think that’s part of it, but the real problem is accessing it near real time. If I’m exercising hard I want to make sure that the pain is from the burn and not a heart problem. If I’ve got near real time data then I can meter myself.
