re: #2 researchok

I don’t want to make of it. The IG report ought to shed plenty of sunlight on the matter.

What bothers me most of all is the Executive Privilege assertion. If the AG/JD’s office did nothing wrong, why the would the WH do that? Surely they had nothing to do with the program- why would they go out on a limb, make themselves targets if the JD/AG’s office did nothing wrong, as they assert?

If the AG/JD screwed up, just say so. The cover up is always worse than the crime. It isn’t as if they were trying to do something self serving- their efforts were in service to fighting the tsunami of illegal drugs coming into the country.

If they were trying to hide something, they would not have offered to show Issa and his committee everything they asked for. If Issa thought there was something there, he would have accepted the offer. He’d rather turn it down and scream “COVERUP!!!1”

why would they go out on a limb, make themselves targets if the JD/AG’s office did nothing wrong, as they assert?

Simple. As they stated, there are ongoing prosecutions that would be blown by releasing all that info to the public. There may also be undercover operations they want to continue, and undercover identities they want to protect, but Holder said there are ongoing court cases.
