I support ID laws in general. Certainly they are of use in apportioning state and federal services and programs. People who do avail themselves of these programs already do have acceptable ID documents.
However, unless and until voter fraud is proved to be a significant problem demanding ID at polling stations from individuals who do not already have such identification is both onerous and burdensome.
You’re missing the point. The people pushing these voter ID laws are not trying to prevent fraud. They’re trying to tilt the presidential election. Making it onerous and burdensome is exactly what they intend to do.
