Don’t really get why this clarification was necessary. They were embassy security. I’d kind of assume that if they were in a position to protect the ambassador, they’d do so. That their job was general security rather than being his specific bodyguards seems pretty moot.

Better to get it out officially rather than it coming out unofficially later followed by “what are they hiding?” trolling and conspiracism. This way the trolls and loons will be less able to latch on to those two brave men.
