In the USMC, we have the buddy system drilled into from boot camp. You never go anywhere alone, or let a fellow Marine go off on his own. Either the Army is so lax they don’t have similar rules, or someone in his unit dropped the ball or didn’t care that Bergdahl was vulnerable.

I remember the early reports that he was on the can when he was captured, so I’m left wondering if he had told his “buddies” he was going to pinch off a loaf, they decided that they didn’t give enough of a fuck to check up on him until awhile later, and when they realized he was gone decided he’d just “walked off.”
