Because verification doesnāt simply mean ānot a botā - it is supposed to be reserved for people who Twitter deems āof noteā or likely to be impersonated. It comes with some additional tools to help manage things like oneās mentions, I believe, although since Iām not verified I have no idea. Charles might be able to offer some more insight on that area.
Mastodon has a different set-up but some issues of its own, like how moderating can play out in reality. I donāt know that either model is ultimately going to solve the āunrestrained human natureā issue but I think that if it were applied better, Twitterās approach has the better chance, honestly.
Thatās part of what makes Twitterās reluctance to deal with this so frustrating.
The only way to make Twitter play nice is to have full time staff that monitor it. But for something people donāt pay for, thatās basically impossible.
