In this era of relative peace, people have a hard time conceiving of states like Russia as “hostile”. They’re not at open war with us, and the Cold War is over too, so can’t we just be friends? The thing is, the Russians still don’t like us because we won the damn Cold War. They were left to play catch-up and have been failing, and they are doing their damnedest to sabotage us so they can take our place. That is a hostile state, regardless of if they’re openly fighting us.
