He said some stupid shit that got him disapproval here, so he sought approval where he could. This happens again and again, and includes Trump being rejected by NYC society and getting his approval from the poorly educated bigots instead. People want to be accepted, and often take the easiest path to acceptance, rather than bother with self-improvement.
