1. The city has a large population of “Chaldeans” (Iraqi Christians, mainly immigrants): so I’m thinking at least some of the opposition to the new mosque isn’t from the “usual” sources.

Chaldeans in metro Detroit are sectarian bigots who play up their Christian identity to win favors with the majority population.
