There are no independent statesmen among the current Republican Senators, that I can recall.

Sasse maybe, but he’s yet to be tested.

The very atavistic, theocratic ideologues are steering the Republican ship, and almost all Republicans are willing to go along with that, or at least not fight it.

And even Sasse is a theocrat, if not a particularly sour one that most are.

The Arizona Senators one would think would be the most likely to bolt on this healthcare thing, given the large number of retirees in the state. But even they may bow to the majority in their own party.

Sasse is my senator, so time to fire up my telephone. (His staff called me back over my last call, so I might now be off his “blocked Democrats” list.)

Also a postcard for him and Deb Fischer.

I don’t know about Senator Fischer, but Senator Sasse has to know how this will affect rural hospitals in our state. (It’ll close them.) The majority of people in the state live in rural areas. That might be worth something.
