Applegate is not a literalist, though.

She’s a harmonizer.

She’s attempting to keep the story of Genesis, and modern science, and find some harmony between them.

It’s the worst approach. It only comes about when someone is trying really, really hard to avoid the obvious conclusion.

I guess some people’s worldview will just totally collapse if they come to accept that Genesis is just one of many creation myths handed down to us throughout history.

And again, there are Christians who have no problem seeing it that way, they look on it as part of their religious heritage and use the Bible to investigate the “why” of human creation and leave the mechanism of creation for scientists to try to figure out.

Even the Catholic Church sees no inherent conflict between Evolution and Creation.
