I pissed off some folks on FB for saying that Trump voters are horrible people, but honestly, I’m really, REALLY sick of being nice.

He isn’t a mystery, and he wasn’t a mystery before the election. If you voted for him, you knew you were voting for a racist, a misogynist, an Islamophobe, and a proudly ignorant liar. Every horrible thing he has done was something he PROMISED to do. In fact, the only thing that’s kept him from doing even more horrible things than he has is the remaining institutions of government, and he’s gnawing away at those.

People try to excuse others voting for him by saying ‘they wanted change’ or ‘they’re frustrated with Washington’ or ‘they were voting against Hillary’. If their political views are such that they believe a racist, misogynist, Islamophobic, bloviating ignoramus is BETTER THAN Clinton, I’m not sure how that makes them any better than someone who just plain wants a racist, misogynist, Islamophobic, bloviating ignoramus for President.

Add to that the fact that he has 90% approval among Republicans, not despite the horrible things he’s done, but rather because of them, and I’m not sure how you can say that his supporters are NOT horrible people.

I think it’s a big element of white privilege that we can have relatives and friends who like having a racist, misogynist, Islamophobic, bloviating ignoramus for President, and still consider them ‘good people’, because really, it’s not our ox that’s getting gored.
