Look for last year’s Beacon shows, if you can. One night, Clapton guested, and it was the FIRST TIME they had played together, which I hadn’t realized. (Shhh — I have a taper buddy who gave me a copy — more amazing than you could imagine!)

I need too get to see them soon. I’ve heard a boatload from last year’s tour, and they’re still smokin’ hot. (Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. Say no more.)

And for those of you who know these bands: I put forth that Warren Haynes is one of the most remarkable musicians living, based on last summer alone. He toured with BOTH the Allmans and the Dead. IN THE SAME YEAR. I can barely imagine learning the gigantic repertoire of ONE of those bands, let alone both of them.

I’m not even remotely worthy!

he doesn’t learn the repertoire note for note…he jams in a particular key and knows the progressions, or picks them up as he goes along…he’s a fine guitarist and a decent guy (met him at a benfit in DC)…but remember there are thousands of great players out there, every bit as good or even better….just ask Mad Al
