I’m asking because I genuinely don’t understand what people appear to have wanted out of Obama, just that they are disappointed that they didn’t get it.

I wanted him to drop a bombshell so earth-shattering that even a good chunk of tRump supporters would say, well shit, faithless electors, do yo’ thang. You know, the mega-oppo drop that @therickwilson kept hinting at, the “there” that was supposed to be there.

But I suppose it’s obvious now there’s no such animal.

Barring that, he could have also avoided (as Charles said) giving tRump the benefit of the doubt, since doing so at this point is enabling the normalizing of fascism.

But really, the damage that enabled the rise of tRump was done a long time ago, and yes, Obama made it worse (e.g. failing to call out GOP obstructionism in a meaningful way at the right time and kneecapping HRC in the rust belt states with the TPP)
