I will say one thing, regarding the earlier conversation regarding Trump Supporters vs. GOP supporters.

My personal stance: they can claim to not support Trump all they want, but if they remain bull-headed in their GOP support where it’s clear there’s precious little daylight between Trump and the actual GOP leaders aside from perhaps specific competency, then it comes off as a distinction without a difference to me. The same way that those who claim they aren’t personally racist/sexist/etc. but then turn around and vote for a blatant racist/sexist/etc. precisely because it simply wasn’t a dealbreaker for them.

At some point, we can’t let these folks off the hook precisely because even if they’re a softer kind of ‘wrong, they precisely enable the worst of the conservatives because they look past the coarsening of the discourse and shredding of norms because they can get their way, much the same way #204 Hecuba’s daughter noted about their single-issue voter friend.

I can respect folks like Navarro, McMullin, and Rubin because, while I won’t agree with them most of the time regarding in-the-weeds political views, they recognize and are willing to admit that Trump and the GOPs slash-and-burn is dangerous, even in the process of codifying something they might agree with otherwise. And they precisely call out the GOP for enabling it, rather than trying to assume daylight between the GOP and Trump where there is none to be seen.

I’ve seen too much hard work on logic and emotional appeals done to conservatives and fence sitters go to waste because all it takes is one sound-bite from the right to send them screaming back right-ward and cursing the name of all liberalism, logic and reason be damned.
