I know this isn’t a popular position around here, but, I have always been fascinated by Reagan. I don’t think he was as conservative as he played, and in a lot of ways probably got captured a bit by the evangelical movement. But he was far from the doctrinaire that many of those who came after him were - he wasn’t afraid to raise taxes after cutting them, and I don’t think he was a pro-life true believer (otherwise he wouldn’t have appointed O’Connor or Kennedy). He clearly had his failings - racebaiting and being slow to act on AIDS/HIV being at the top of the list.

I see you are not listing a lot of Reagan positives.

And you are leaving out some big issues. Iran Contra and Father of Trickle Down Economics which has fucked this country up since the 1980s are some big things to live down. Ed Meese and his War on Porn. Starwars a big money drain on the economy that fed a lot of big conservative business mouths. And I’m not even thinking all that much about this…there is probably more.
