Hey, since we’re talking about instruments as Xmas gifts: any opinions on standard vs electronic drums for a beginner? In this case, the beginner is an adult.

My 2 cents. A decent drum kit will run you a lot more money. After all, it’s skins. And wood. Which need tuning, and all the things involved with brass (cymbals). Just as a cheap guitar can kill inspiration, so can cheap anything musically. You can pick up an electronic kit much cheaper and with a decent powered monitor you can get up to speed. Then see if you want to sink into a good kit.
I was going towards drums before I started playing guitar. I practiced on the old thick phone books.
Like I said, my 2 cents.
Have you ever had the opportunity to sit behind a good drum kit and bang?
