I see what Northam is trying to do and can even grudgingly respect it - he’s saying he wants to shut up and listen and learn how to better handle issues of race in 2019.

But in the nuance-free world of 2019 where you’re either a saint or a racist in a Klan hood, can he pull that off? I’m not betting on it.

It’s unfortunate. I think he had a better chance if he came clean about it tho.
