Wow, how’s this for an interesting situation?

I just got finished a long discussion with a right wing friend of mine. She’s a nurse at a hospital in a major city a couple of states west of here.

Now I don’t have a ton of background information, but the basic fact is this: She has been disciplined and may well be fired because she refused to treat a patient.

She refused to treat them because of her “religious beliefs”. And exactly what did this patient say or do that made my friend not want to treat him?

Nothing. She did not want to treat him or deal with her family because they were Muslim.

Yes, REALLY.

She flat out refused to treat them. Her boss assigned a different nurse to them and suspended my friend. She is currently awaiting the outcome of a hearing that will determine whether or not she keeps her job.

I tried to tell her that if she is going to work in certain places she will have to understand she may be dealing with things that may make her uncomfortable.

She believes her “religious rights” should be respected and protected at all times, no matter where she is working.

21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

(In the end Jesus changed his mind and healed the daughter anyway)
